Makybe Diva is the only horse to have won three Melbourne Cups achieving the feat with three successive Cup victories in 2003-04 and 05.

Three horses have been able to win consecutive Cups. Archer (1861-62), Rain Lover (1968-69) and Think Big (1974-75). Peter Pan is the only other dual Melbourne Cup winner (1932-34).

James Bartholomew Cummings is the most successful trainer of Melbourne Cup winners having provided the winner of the greatest two-mile handicap on 11 occasions. Five times the Cups King has provided the quinella. His last Melbourne Cup winner was Rogan Josh in 1999.
